Every activity that a volunteer gets involved with, from assisting at an education event to leading a committee, is equally valuable.

2008 ASCnet Editorial Advisory Group

Do You Have the Pulse?

Not a pulse, although that’s important. We’re talking about the pulse… the pulse of ASCnet members, their agencies and brokerages, and insurance, business and technology at large. If so, ASCnet needs your insight.

The ASCnet Editorial Advisory Group (EAG) is looking for connected, committed and creative members. As an EAG participant, you will help keep ASCnet Quarterly, our user group’s magazine, relevant and fresh.

If these skills, experience and availability describe you, you’ll find this a particularly rewarding assignment:

You read ASCnet Quarterly.
You also read (at least peruse) other insurance industry trade publications, such as Rough Notes, American Agent & Broker, National Underwriter, TechDecisions and more.
You also keep up on business and technology issues, electronically or in print.
You frequently talk with people in your organization about what’s working well for them—and what’s not.
Your coworkers (or kids or neighbors or best friend) will tell us you’re not afraid to speak your mind.
You’re willing to share ideas verbally and convey your thoughts and suggestions in writing.
The desire to commit to ASCnet communication goals and objectives and provide input to the committee
You’re interested in working with ASCnet and other members to establish direction for the magazine and make sure it’s meeting its objectives.
You will agree to help identify topics, authors, articles, columns and columnists for the magazine.
You’ll prepare for and take part in four teleconferences each year (scheduled now for early February, May, August and November) to discuss story ideas for upcoming issues.
You’d be happy to prepare for and take part in an annual teleconference (probably in late August or early September) to identify broad themes for each of the four issues the following year.
You’re willing to help promote article submission by talking up the magazine among your peers and other business associates.
You have been an ASCnet member for at least a year.
You’re interested in helping identify vendors, carriers and other organizations whose products might be a good fit for advertising.
You see how you’ll get way more out of this (great networking, for example) than simply the good feeling that comes from helping fellow ASCnet members and industry colleagues.
You’d like fame and glory for your efforts (well, at least mention in the magazine!)

2008 ASCnet TENCon Call for Volunteers

ASCnet is now accepting applications for a limited number of hard-working, knowledgeable, enthusiastic people who are interested in serving as members of the support team at the 2008 ASCnet TENCon.

Based on your area of interest, ASCnet’s volunteer coordinator will create a working schedule which will allow volunteers free time to attend sessions they are most interested in attending or schedule volunteers to work at those particular sessions.

Please carefully review the information below outlining volunteer duties before volunteering your services. Interested individuals should complete the volunteer application form attached. This information will be used to help us determine job assignments that will be interesting to you.

We will need volunteers to assist with the following tasks:

Badge Assembly – prepare badge holders, schedule-at-a-glance, pens
Bag Assembly - fill bags for conference attendees (on Monday only)
Directional Assistance – volunteers provide assistance for delegates on navigating the hotel and conference area
Registration – check-in attendees and provide information. Volunteers will confirm registrants and provide them with their badges and any appropriate tickets.
Room Monitoring – pass out evaluations and handouts to classes

Policy Oversight Committee

The ASCnet Policy Oversight Committee (POC) is seeking qualified volunteers to sit on one of several task forces to assist the committee in the development of particular organizational policies and/or policy implementation guidelines.

Current task force initiatives include conflict of interest, privacy/confidentiality, intellectual property, association grievance resolution, code of ethics/conduct, nominations/vacancy, whistleblower, board voting, and communication and maintenance of approved policies.

The POC volunteer requirements are as follows:

At least 2 years experience and knowledge in ASCnet
Ability to volunteer for approximately 3-4 months
Ability and willingness to participate for the duration of the assigned task force
Ability to participate in teleconference calls as needed
Time and project management skills in achieving and meeting scheduled deliverables
Commitment and desire to create and share knowledge both verbally and in writing as it pertains to the specific task force
