Accepting the award on behalf of the Florida Users Group of Applied Systems were Chapter President Judy Dzwigal of Lutgert Insurance, Vice President Debbie Friend, Secretary Vickie Manning of Lykes Insurance and Madelyn Davidson of Davidson Insurance.

The officers established a vision for what the chapter could become and set out to make changes and improvements to turn that vision into reality.  Goals were set around attendance, member retention, new member growth, communication, quality of meetings and lastly, to become Chapter of the Year.  Better and more frequent communication-among officers and with the general membership-contributed to achievement of the goals.  Meeting attendance grew from 40, to 50 to 75 attendees per meeting.

Congratulations to the Northwest Ohio User Group, ASCnet's Chapter of the Year for 2010

Accepting the award on behalf of the Northwest Ohio ASCnet Users Group were Chapter President Sonia Merz, of Bokerman Yackee Koesters Insurance, in Napoleon, OH; Vice President Leah Purmort-Treece, of Purmort Brothers Insurance Agency, in Van Wert; Secretary Stephanie Winegardner, of Block Insurance Agency, in Waynesfield; and Treasurer Lisa Rozek, CISR, of Diversified Insurance Service in Elmore.

The Chapter of the Year Award honors an ASCnet local affiliate that has shown outstanding leadership and provided their members with exceptional opportunities to increase their profitability and grow the value of their agencies through their education programs and services.

Over the past year, the Northwest Ohio ASCnet Users Group undertook a number of initiatives to fulfill its charter. During the year, it: supported local chapter leadership development by sponsoring attendance of its four officers at ASCnet’s 2010 Leadership Conference; bolstered volunteer recruitment and enacted leadership perpetuation planning; tapped technology to drive better
communication with chapter members, directly and through social media; invested heavily in timely, relevant education and learning events for members; and implemented a creative member recruitment program that is attracting new agencies.

Congratulations to the Dakota Users Group of Applied Systems, ASCnet’s Chapter of the Year for 2009

The Chapter of the Year is an honor and acknowledgement of all the work and time chapter officers have done for its membership in a given year.  Each of our chapter's are unique and provide education and networking for their membership at local user group meetings.  This once a year honor demonstrates how ASCnet Chapters strive to do more for their membership. The Chapter of the Year award allows a bit of a cushion for future meetings as there is a monetary prize as well as a plaque and meeting gavel.

Completing the submission application is actually the easiest step.  It is the volunteer time and effort throughout the year that is put into the planning and conducting member meetings, and running a chapter that is complex.

Each year ASCnet conducts an Officer Retreat, where new techniques, tools and requirements for member meetings and chapter administration are presented to the volunteer leaders.  The processes and techniques presented at the Retreat are what form the Chapter of the Year submission categories:

  • Leadership Skills
  • Member Education and Meetings
  • Chapter Administration and Management
  • Communications
  • Membership Retention and Growth

The submission application includes a series of questions for each of the above categories, as well as an opportunity for the chapter to submit work examples.  Each category is worth 15 points, with an additional 25 points available at the reviewer’s discretion.  Submissions are reviewed and scored by members of the Chapters Committee Task Force.  The review is blind, with any and all references to the chapter name or members removed.

The 2009 Chapter of the Year winner, Dakota Users Group of Applied Systems, truly portrayed the dynamics of users helping users at their local meetings.  The Officers have put into place or are in the process of implementing many of the new requirements and techniques presented at Officer Retreats.

Chapters, large and small are challenged year after year in recruiting new volunteers to fill officer positions.  The Dakota Users Group has successfully put into place a mentoring program for future leaders that includes leading by example and demonstrating how much fun it is to be involved.  The chapter continues member and non member communications, surveying their constituents for new improved ways to deliver programs at the local level.

Congratulations to the Dakota Users Group of Applied Systems.
